| Austin Waldorf School is an educational facility located on U.S. Hwy. 290 West. In 1997 Austin Waldorf School acquired an additional 8.5 acres for expansion. The site, which is located in "SOS" protected area, required subdivision and site plan approval.
UDG prepared a topographic and tree survey of the site and subdivided the existing land and new property into two lots. The proposed improvements include a new high school, performing arts center, athletic facility and sports field. UDG provided all civil engineering design for water, grading, drainage and water quality improvements. The water quality system, which complies with SOS requirements, incorporates a re-irrigation area on the new athletic field. The drainage system required the construction of a berm and storm sewer bypass for off-site flows and a detention pond which was built adjacent to the water quality pond. The detention pond provides control for the 2-year, 10-year, 25-year and 100-year storm events. Although the site does not have many hardwood trees, there is dense cedar coverage. The master plan required preservation of natural areas as much as possible. UDG worked closely with the contractor, incorporating layout changes to accommodate tree preservation. UDG also worked with Waldorf School, Travis County and TxDOT to design a realignment of Southview Road through the school site to provide a safer signalized intersection with Highway 290 West. The design required coordination of the roadway, drainage and signal design with Travis County, City of Austin and TxDOT. |
