East 7th Street Corridor Concept Plan and Improvement Project
Austin, Texas
Upon completion of the Corridor Planning Guidebook, the East 7th Street Corridor was chosen as the pilot corridor. The project included a corridor study using the process outlined in the Guidebook resulting in a plan developed with the input of the stakeholders. The plan provides a recommended methodology to enhance vehicular and pedestrian safety, improve corridor appearance, pursue code compliance and stimulate revitalization. UDG worked as a subconsultant to The Goodman Corporation on the concept plan. UDG’s work involved general input during the planning process and the design and permitting of a pedestrian median at Calles and E. 7th Street. The median design was a fast-track temporary solution to a high-use pedestrian crossing. The work was permitted under the General Permit and constructed by City of Austin Road and Bridge crews. UDG is working as the prime consultant on the design of the corridor improvements. Work will include medians, driveway closures, pedestrian crossings, wayfinding, lighting and landscaping for East 7th between Chicon and Pleasant Valley.
